Neighbors help woman escape fire that destroyed house

The American Red Cross is helping a family who lost their west Knox County home in a fire.

When three neighbors noticed that a home on El Prado Drive was on fire Sunday night, they ran into the house and helped a woman escape.

Rural Metro Fire Department said no one was hurt, but the fire destroyed the home.

Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Local leaders are praising students for their work to combat bullying in our schools.

Knoxville mayor Madeline Rogero and Chief David Rausch honored nine Hardin Valley students involved with 'Project-U" on Tuesday.

In partnership with the Knoxville Police Department, the students produced an anti-bullying campaign that received national recognition.

Whole Foods Market officially opens first Knoxville store

After months of anticipation, a popular grocery store chain finally opened its first location in the Knoxville-area.

Whole Foods Market officially opened its doors in west Knoxville's Papermill Plaza at 9 a.m. Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett attended the grand opening at 8:45 a.m., featuring live bluegrass music, cloggers, and a break-baking ceremony.

Several hundred people lined up before 8:30 a.m. to get the chance to win one of 100 gift cards valued from $5 to $500.

Mother and son escape West Knoxville house fire

(WBIR) A mother and son safely escaped their home after a fire Saturday afternoon in West Knoxville.

Firefighters arrived on scene in the 2000 block of Millard Beets Road a little before 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Crews contained the fire to two-thirds of the structure.

KFD said no one was hurt and the family will be staying with extended family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Whole Foods serves up lunch for a great cause

The Whole Foods isn't open officially yet in Knoxville, but that didn't stop the store from serving up lunch in its parking lot on Friday for a good cause.

Proceeds from the $6 flatbread sandwiches will go to the local charity, Wesley House Community Center.

Whole Foods will officially open its first East Tennessee store on March 24. The store is in the Papermill Plaza in west Knoxville.

Whole Foods will sell lunch until 3 p.m. and again on Saturday.

Irish Times Pub and Restaurant to close up shop

A popular west Knoxville pub and restaurant is closing its doors for good after eight years of business, at least for the time being.

Saturday, March 21 will be the Irish Times Pub and Restaurant's last day.

The Irish Times Pub and Restaurant and their landlord have both agreed to terminate the pub's lease in Turkey Creek early, according to restaurant's Facebook page.
