Bargain hunters are gearing up for a week of consignment sales in Knoxville, but this consignment is for grown-ups. 

People lined up Wednesday morning, ready for the start of the Flip Flop Consignment.

A lot of consignments focus on children's items, but this is one of the few that focuses on clothes and other products for adults.
The owner holds the event twice a year.

She says it is a lot of work, and it is worth it.

A new discount beauty retail chain is now open in Knoxville.

Ulta opened its doors in Turkey Creek on Friday. It's located in the former Borders.

Ulta stores sell makeup, hair care, bath and body products, along with styling tools. The store has a full-service salon, but it's not taking appointments just yet.

A West Knoxville spa pampers breast cancer survivors

A West Knoxville spa pampered breast cancer survivors by giving them facials, massages hair cuts, manicures and pedicures on Monday.

This was all part of the "Hands On" at the Total Works Salon Spa. People in the community donated $60 to give some cancer survivors rest and relaxation.

The event founder Kelly Baker said this is a great was to help people suffering with the disease along their paths towards recovery.

Empty Borders stores to re-open with new tenants

Empty retail stores that once housed Borders bookstores are re-opening with new tenants.

Discount beauty chain, Ulta, will open Friday in the former Borders in Turkey Creek. Ulta stores sell makeup, hair care, bath and body products, along with styling tools.

The store will also feature a full-service salon, but it's not taking appointments just yet.

People interested in working at the new Ulta can apply online.

A few miles east on Kingston Pike, the other old Borders will also have a new tenant.

Duck Duck Goose consignment sale underway

Duck Duck Goose consignment sale underway

The Duck Duck Goose fall-winter sale is underway in West Knoxville.

What started in a backyard with a few tents is now one of the largest consignment sales in the area.

Shoppers can browse gently used clothing and toys for their little ones. More than 20,000 shoppers are expected.

The event runs through Sunday at the Old Goody's Warehouse near West Town Mall.

Farragut shopping center has been sold

Farragut shopping center has been sold

The commercial complex that once housed a Food City in Farragut now has a new owner.

Farragut Pointe on Kingston Pike across from Farragut High School was purchased by Farragut Pointe Properties Tuesday.

The complex is more than 71,000 square feet and currently has two tenants, Mario's Pizza and Grill and Fabulous Fido.

First Commercial Real Estate is handling the leasing of the property. It's looking at several uses for the complex, including retail, medical, educational and office uses.

The Lord's Child collecting donations for Isaac victims

For the next three days, a Sevier County non-profit is collecting water and non-perishable food items for victims of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The Lord's Child will be stationed with a tractor trailer at three area Walmart stores: Sevierville, Turkey Creek, and East Towne. They hope to fill them up to take to Louisiana in the next few days.

One of the organizers, Eric Lambert, has a personal connection to the supplies' destination.

Born and raised in Plaquemines Parish, Lambert still has family there.
