Austin-East to hold free summer dance camp for middle schoolers

 

Austin-East Performing Arts Magnet High School is offering a free dance camp this summer for middle-schoolers.

The free dance camp is available to rising 6th graders thru rising 9th graders during June 3rd-8th.

Camp will include classes in ballet, jazz, modern, west african and hip hop. Breakfast and Lunch are provided.

A final showcase will be on the last day of camp to highlight what has been learned through the week.

West Valley Middle performs new play written by a teacher

West Valley Middle School's new play "The Legend of the Lost Boys" is a prequel to the Peter Pan story, and is written especially for the school by one of its teachers.

Friday night marked the opening night for the fall production.

Students in West Valley's drama club say it's been great, and the experience is really giving them a change to experience things they've never experienced before.

Parent, community input used in Knox school rezoning proposal

Knox County parents and community members learned more Tuesday night about changes that could decide where their children attend school next year.

A new elementary school in Southwest Knox County will open in August 2013 to help alleviate overcrowding in parts of the county. Knox County Schools is working to redraw zoning lines for the area impacted.

"A lot of what we heard really focuses on making sure that this is a smooth transition for kids," said Knox County Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre.

Tuesday night, parents will have the chance to weigh in on plans to redraw the districts for several west Knox County elementary schools.

Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre will host the first of four parent feedback meetings to discuss the plans.

The meeting will be held at Cedar Bluff Elementary School, from 6-8 pm.
