Body of man sought in Sunday shooting found in West Knox | News
A man sought by Knox County authorities in a Sunday shooting has been found dead, a firearm near his side, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives found Benjamin Hackney's body in woods near 9906 Coward Mill Road - not far from his home - about 6 p.m. Monday. He'd been shot.
A member of the public provided the tip that led to the 46-year-old Hackney's body after spotting his Chevy S10 pickup.
"A preliminary investigation determined that he may have been shot with a weapon found adjacent to his body," according to the Sheriff's Office.
An autopsy will be conducted.
Hackney was wanted in connection with the shooting of his housemate.
According to the Sheriff's Office, detectives were called to a home at 10137 Coward Mill Road just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday to investigate the shooting.
Investigators said Marty Humphrey, 55, and Hackney, 46, lived in the home with Humphrey's wife. The two men got into an argument, and they said Hackney got a gun and shot Humphrey in the lower abdomen, then took off.
Humphrey was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. His wife was not injured.
