Volunteer-run medical clinic moves into new home
News

A volunteer-run medical clinic, serving three East Tennessee counties, now has a new home.

St. Mary's Legacy
cut the ribbon on its new building at 10919 Carmichael Road in west Knox County on Thursday morning. Since last year, the clinic has operated out of a warehouse temporarily.

The Catholic charity offers health care to the uninsured.

Sister Mariana Koonce, executive director of St. Mary's Legacy, said the new building will help the clinic serve the community better.

"Who we serve are the poor, the people who are unable to receive health care, to obtain health care, they can't afford to pay for it," said Sister Mariana Koonce. "They're not insured and we take the care to them, so this building really enhances our ability to operate efficiently and effectively."

St. Mary's Legacy Clinic serves Grainger, Hamblen, and McMinn counties. The non-profit said it's looking to expand to a larger area in the future.
