News

A former Farragut football standout was killed in a car crash on the interstate in west Knoxville.

Andre Sterling, 24, lost control of his car at the ramp from west Pellissippi Parkway to I-40 eastbound early Wednesday morning.

Over the past 24 hours, Farragut Football honored its former player, tweeting its condolences to his family.

Investigators said they believe Sterling was driving too fast onto the ramp, and the left tires of his car went off the pavement. Sterling then overcorrected and the car went off the right side of the road and down an embankment, rolling several times. The driver wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.

Officers said Sterling was dead when they arrived.

Authorities said they believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
