Teens find friendship on tandem bike rides

Teens find friendship on tandem bike rides

A tandem bike has two wheels and two seats and two people working together to make it go.

Two teenagers developed a friendship based on the trust of riding together.

A bicycle built for two took off with Fausto Crapiz in front (the pilot) and Tate Garcia in back (the stoker).

"Whoa! Now you're smoking!" Tate exclaimed as they zipped down Cherokee Boulevard in West Knoxville.

Fausto said, "He's a very good stoker."

Knoxville HRC Medical Center closes its doors

The doors have officially closed at a local medical center that specializes in hormone replacement.

In December, a judge ordered HRC Medical Centers to stop making false and misleading claims in its advertising. The court says the company intentionally did not tell patients about the potential health risks and side effects of some treatments.

A Davidson County judge appointed a Nashville attorney, John McLemon, to take full control and operate HRC.

Start 2013 Off On The Right Foot

Whether running or walking, the New Year's Day 5K is a great way to kick off the new year.   One of the reasons I love this race is that it welcomes both runners AND walkers. The race starts at Calhoun's on the River and is out and back for 3.1 miles on Neyland Drive.  If you don't like hills, this is one of the flattest races around.

American Medical Response filed a protest with the Knox County Purchasing Department, which claimed there were significant flaws in the recent EMS contract recommendation.  Knox County Purchasing Director Hugh Holt said after a careful review, he denied AMR's protest and determined it was without merit.

Flu vaccines available for uninsured children

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Children covered by TennCare and children without insurance that covers the flu vaccine can get vaccinated at county health department clinics for only a small administrative fee.

The Tennessee Health Department says children will not be turned away if parents cannot afford the fee.   The flu vaccine is especially important for people at high risk for serious illness or death from influenza, which includes young children.
