One of its members, Kathy Winters, said she sees it as reminder that the price of freedom is not free.

"It's important that our youth, whether its the Young Marines, the cub scouts that are here, whoever, to carry on tradition," said Winters. "It's a very, very important tradition and recognition for the community that these veterans are here."

By ground or air, patrols monitor trick-or-treaters

On this Halloween, law enforcement hit the streets and the air to make sure trick-or-treaters were safe.

"We're looking for pedestrian traffic. The safety for those people," said KPD Officer Shawn Shreve, as he patrolled the streets of East Knoxville Wednesday. He said KPD was treating Wednesday like a holiday, with patrols focusing on two things: pedestrians and an increase in cars on the road.

"Most of the time you have kids running away from their parents. They start following some friends who thought are in their party," Officer Shreve added.

Mathnasium hosted a Halloweenie Party where students dressed in math-inspired costumes and grilled hot dogs. A math magician did math card tricks while other people played games.

The store owner said this is just a fun way to get kids excited about math.
