Jury deliberations in Baumgartner trial to resume Wednesday

The federal jury in charge of deciding the fate of former disgraced Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner has gone home for the night.  It asked Judge Ronnie Greer though a note late Tuesday afternoon to be released at 4:30 p.m.  They will resume deliberations Wednesday morning.

The jury deliberatwed for about two and a half hours before the judge released them.  There is no indication about how close the jury is to reaching a verdict.

Closing arguments set for Tuesday in Baumgartner federal trial

Both sides have rested in the federal trial of former Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner; closing arguments are set to begin on Tuesday morning.

Prosecutors rested their case Monday morning after calling their final two witnesses.  Knox County General Sessions Judge Andrew Jackson and Knox County Assistant District Attorney Jeff Blevins testified that Baumgartner approached them separately in 2010 about Castleman.  They were involved in cases against her.

Man found guilty of murder, child abuse in 2011 toddler death

Danny Branam Jr. has been found guilty of murder and child abuse, according to the Knox County District Attorney's Office.

Branam was charged with the murder of 18-month-old Brooklyn Stinnet.

Officers were called to Big Oak Apartments in April 2011 where they found the toddler, who wasn't breathing. She died in the hospital a few days later.

Branam was the boyfriend of the child's mother, Brittany Stinnett.

Stinnett is also charged with aggravated child abuse and felony murder. Her trial is currently set to begin on November 26.

Mostly female jury selected in Baumgartner trial

A jury has been selected in the trial of disgraced former Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner.

 

Ten women and two men were selected to be on the main jury during the jury selection process, with one woman and one man as alternates.

Baumgartner faces seven counts of misprision of a felony. Prosecutors say he lied to the people, including state official, while trying to cover up a drug trafficking conspiracy.

Testimony continued on Wednesday in the trial for a Knoxville man accused in a child abuse death.

Funeral arrangements set for Knoxville soldier who died in accidental shooting

Family members have set funeral services for a Knoxville soldier who was killed in an accidental shooting in Fort Carson, Colorado.

The family of Specialist John Hargreaves will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday at Weaver Funeral Home.  His funeral will be at 11 am on Saturday.  There will also be a candelight ceremony in Hargreaves' honor on Saturday night at Karns High School, his alma mater.
