Community Spotlight - Karns Community Club

Greetings and saluations!

This is a time to highlight some community happenings that some people might not know about. Today is about the Karns Community Club. This club was established in 1954 and could be one of the last community clubs in Knox County.

The motto of the club is "To inform and unite for progress" and the main function of the club is that it provides leadership and the means for Karns to encourage a sense of community and to promote quality of life. All residents of Karns automatically belong to the Club.

They meet the first Tuesday of every month at the old library 7708 Oak Ridge Hwy @ 7:30pm, where monthy executive meetings are held.Communitcations for the community are located at the Byington Beaver Ridge / Oak Ridge Hwy red light. The club owns, maintains and schedule use of the Community Center and the Youth Community Center, which is located behind the Karns Volunteer fire department and before the pool. The fundraising is conducted by the club by making homemade ice cream (that's right, I said homemade). Look for them at the at Townsend Festival and at Fall Festival of the Museum of Appalachia Homecoming. The club also sponsers the Karns Community Fair along side with the Karns Business Association and a community Christmas party, which will be held at the first Thursday in December. Other help by the club:

  • Sponsor Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops
  • Sponsor Boys and Girls State Representatives
  • Sponsor several youth sports
  • Donate money to the Karns High School Band for instruments
  • Help sponsor KES students going to environmental camp

Want to become more involved?

  • Attend meetings and events; it is a good way to meet new friends
  • Bring your concerns and ideas, and be ready to help carry out a project
  • Volunteer for a committee
  • Use the facilities (for club meetings, family reunion, weddings & receptions, class reunions, etc.) and be willing to help with work parties

As you can tell, this community club has long served Karns in so many wonderful ways. Please visit www.karnscommunity.com and click on the Karns Community sign for more info.

Please also visit the Nature Trail which is located behind the parking lot of the community center. A nice trail with some tree markers to help indentify along the way. The trail bends behind the center and comes out the other side. Benches are provided here and there to take in nature. Also during the fall season,be on the lookout for the Karns Volunteer Fire Dept sponsered Halloween Trail.
