Crews demolish parts of Lakeshore Park

City of Knoxville crews were out working near Lakeshore Mental Health Institute on Thursday.

They started digging up the old swimming pool at Lakeshore Park which was used by the mental health institute.

Crews will demolish the pool house and part of the fencing along the greenway. They'll also do some maintenance work in the 110-acre park.

The park will stay open during this time, but the city asks people to be aware of the work.

City crews are set to begin some maintenance and demolition projects at Lakeshore Park.

Within the next couple of weeks, crews are set to demolish the long-closed swimming pool and pool house once used by Lakeshore Mental Health Institute.

They will also remove some sections of fencing along the greenway and perform landscaping maintenance.

The park will remain open, but visitors will need to watch out for crews at work.

The state closed the Lakeshore Mental Health Institute in June, but continues to provide some services at facilities on the property.

It's one of the only mom and pop grocery stores you can find in West Knoxville, and Friday it'll be the subject of the latest cash mob.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett is hoping to attract shoppers to Butler and Bailey Friday evening. It's been in business for over 20 years, and puts a lot of emphasis on customer service, along with local products from coffee and produce to dairy and bacon.

New home decor shop moves into Turkey Creek

A new store will soon set up shop in what was once billed as "Tennessee's biggest flea market."

The Turkey Creek Public Market closed in late July after only being in business for 11 months.

Now, First Commercial Real Estate confirms a Texas-based home decor chain called Garden Ridge will soon fill that location.

Garden Ridge has 53 stores in 19 states. It sells everything from furniture and holiday decorations to silk flowers and party supplies.

The new Trader Joe's on Kingston Pike opened Friday in the Suburban Plaza shopping center.

Employees say they don't take themselves too seriously, and offer a different shopping environment.

If you want to try a product, just ask a staff member and you can sample in the store.

From the basic to the exotic, the store boasts a wide range of products.

Residents welcome traffic around Northshore Town Center

Northshore Town Center still has plenty of construction projects underway, but with new additions the area is seeing a recent surge in traffic.

Now, some nearby residents say they are thrilled by the crowds.

"It's really attractive and it's really popular now that it's new," said Town Center homeowner Margaret Backhurst.

"I think it will be really convenient for the whole region in the southwest sector here."
