KNOX COUNTY, I-140 East and West: On Thursday, August 30, 2012, motorists should be alert for nightly lane closures between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning as crews repair bridge joints at various locations. Motorists should be alert for workers present and use extreme caution in this area.

The Lord's Child collecting donations for Isaac victims

For the next three days, a Sevier County non-profit is collecting water and non-perishable food items for victims of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The Lord's Child will be stationed with a tractor trailer at three area Walmart stores: Sevierville, Turkey Creek, and East Towne. They hope to fill them up to take to Louisiana in the next few days.

One of the organizers, Eric Lambert, has a personal connection to the supplies' destination.

Born and raised in Plaquemines Parish, Lambert still has family there.

Hundreds of thousands of people will flood Knoxville this weekend for the annual Boomsday and Labor Day activities.

"They're estimating somewhere around 400,000 for the entire event," said Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch.

Construction on the Henley Bridge complicates things this holiday weekend, and as crowds fill the city for the weekends to follow.

Knoxville police will be out in force this weekend directing traffic and monitoring drivers.

Knox Commission discusses future of CTAS

The fifteen Knox County employees who signed up to complete a continuing education class this year can still collect their bonuses of up to $1,000.

But Knox County Commissioners voted Monday to suspend the program in the future until an investigation in to the practice is complete.

The program, known as CTAS, first came under scrutiny when it was discovered several employees were awarded bonuses when they didn't complete the coursework.

 

The revelation prompted an ongoing investigation in to Trustee John Duncan's office.

Manager Jesse Thomason says new hot items are decorative license plates, sideline polo shirts, and bobble heads.

Their store plans to stay stocked this football season, but Thomason encourages shoppers to come early.

Two injured in overnight shooting at West Knoxville club

Two injured in overnight shooting at West Knoxville club

The Knoxville Police Department has released the names of the two victims and the suspect in a West Knoxville club shooting early Saturday morning. 

Police said Jeffery Mize, 30, and Elder Vasquez, 33, are still recovering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Authorities confirmed they arrested Ignacio Vidales, 33, from Oak Ridge in connection with the shooting.  Officers said he has been charged with aggravate assault.
