Same-sex couple awaits court ruling


The battle over Tennessee's ban on gay marriage headed to federal court this week.

The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals listened to arguments from Tennessee, as well as Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan, all of which ban same-sex marriage. But the court also heard from six same-sex couples from those four states. One of those couples, Valeria Tanco and Sophy Jesty, live in West Knoxville.

Teachers stocking up for back-to-school


(WBIR) Some Knox County teachers spent Saturday morning stocking up on supplies ahead of school starting next week.

They picked up pens, pencils, paper, folders and just about everything else at no cost at the Teacher Supply Depot.

The depot runs solely on donations and gives teachers the help they need to start the year, without having to spend too much extra.

Tennova buys land on site of proposed hospital


(WBIR - West Knoxville) New documents obtained by 10News Tuesday show the parent company of Tennova hospitals has purchased two pieces of land in West Knoxville. That land has been talked about as the site of a proposed hospital.

Tennova has been working to move Physicians Regional Medical Center from its current location in North Knoxville, off of E. Oak Hill Ave., to a location on Middlebrook Pike.

New car pool program available for Bearden Middle School


Some Knox County families will have a new transportation option to consider when school begins next week.

Knoxville's Smart Trips program is starting a School Pool pilot program at Bearden Middle School that connects parents who need some help getting their kids to and from class.

Several options are available, including arrangements for parents who can't commit to driving.

Parents who already have a carpool arrangement are still encouraged to sign up.

Deputies search for man accused of West Knox Co. hotel stabbing


(WBIR) Knox County deputies are searching for a person accused of stabbing a man outside a West Knox County hotel early Tuesday morning.

The incident happened shortly before 4 a.m. in the parking lot of Guesthouse Inn & Suites on Lovell Road.

Deputies said a man known as Michael stabbed a 34-year-old man in the neck. Another man was also cut on the arm but refused treatment, according to the Knox County Sheriff's website.
